The artist

Marc Mauro

A lifelong reef keeper who picked up a camera to show everyone else what he had been staring at for twenty-five years.

It started with a ping-pong ball tossed into a fishbowl at a grade-school fair, and a goldfish carried home in a plastic bag. By the age of ten Marc was floating from one fish store to the next, reviving his father's dormant tank from the basement and collecting abandoned aquariums from people who had lost the enthusiasm he never did. His bedroom filled with habitats, each tuned so a different species could thrive. Twenty-five years later, nothing has changed.

The saltwater reef came next. After more than two decades of keeping coral, Marc learned not just how to make a reef prosper, but how to see it: the way a colony opens to the current, how its color shifts under actinic light in the small hours, the personality each animal shows if you wait long enough.

The Reef Prints Collection began as a late-night experiment to document his own tank. It became something else. Sitting inches from the glass, a person can get lost for hours gazing at millions of diverse life forms in a peaceful underwater sanctum, exploding with color in every crevice and valley. Marc felt it would be unjust not to bring that wonderland to people who had never known it existed.

Each photograph requires meticulous patience and impeccable timing. Every subject responds differently to the rhythm of the water and the break of the light, so capturing one at its maximum is a focused, persistent pursuit. The further he ventured, the more captivated he became, and the more he wanted to unveil to the world how beautiful each of these treasured souls really is.

Reef Prints was born to share that beauty as fine art. Now, with reefprints.shop, the same photographs live on the things you use every day.

How every piece is made

The same care that goes into the fine-art prints goes into every towel, mug, and pillow.

Photographed alive

Every design is a real macro photograph of a living coral colony, shot in Marc's reef aquariums. No illustration, no AI, no stock.

Color matched

Product proofs are matched by eye against the original archival print, so the greens glow and the pinks stay electric.

Printed to last

Dye-sublimation bonds the ink into the fabric itself, so the reef won't crack, peel, or fade wash after wash.
